Menada, bronze statue, 6th century b.c. Tetovo, Macedonia.

Among the ancient Greeks, the Menades accompanied the wine god Dionysus. The god Dionysus was the god of grape harvest, winemaking and wine, fertility, orchards and fruits, vegetation, merriment and theater. Statues of the Menades were erected in the temples, but there were also Menada dancers dressed in leopard skin and during the feast of Dionysus took part in the festivities dedicated to this god.

The Tetovo Menada was found in 1933. It is a bronze statue with a height of 9 cm. and a width of 4 cm. She is presented with raised hands, as if playing, and according to the workmanship and style, it was made in the Late Archaic period, between 530 and 500 BC.
